This conference provides an opportunity for Associates and friends to come together and to experience the enrichment of our speakers, topics and exercises. These conferences are open to all. Spes Unica Associates host an in person and virtual Retreat in June, usually based in South Bend, Indiana. Here we reflect on our past year of growth, service, and community and renew our annual promises as Associates.

Holy Cross Connections is a monthly online gathering (via Zoom) hosted by Spes Unica Associates. Holy Cross Connections explores the values and charisms that make Holy Cross special through conversations with individuals who make Holy Cross a central part of their lives. In this way, Holy Cross Connections hopes to strengthen, grow, and inspire the community of lay people engaged with Holy Cross missions, ministries, parishes, schools, and families across the country.
Spes Unica Associates are connected to the community of the Congregation of Holy Cross in the Midwest Province, the U.S. Province, and around the globe.
“We are called to re-evangelize and present the Christian faith in a new way. We must restore its credibility in our cultures. We must find concrete ways to rebuild our societies. The charism of Holy Cross is still contemporary and urgent: to renew the Christian faith, to regenerate society, to “bring about better times” by a constant response to the most pressing needs of the Church and society.”

Lectio Divina is an ancient practice within our Catholic tradition that fosters a deep, personal engagement with Scripture, allowing individuals to encounter God through His Word. This prayerful reading not only enhances spiritual growth but also cultivates a discerning heart. Spes Unica Associates are encouraged to use this practice with Holy Scripture, from the Constitutions of the Congregation of Holy Cross, from the writings of Father Moreau, or reflections from members of our Congregation.

Each March, Spes Unica Associates and friends commit to acts of service and works of mercy. Together, we will reach out to those in need, either as individuals or with our local HCA chapter. It is a week designed for the entire SUA community to put our Catholic values into action. Stories and photos from the week will be presented at our Spes Unica Associates Retreat in June.
This year our Spes Unica Week of Service was March 16-22, 2025. As always, it was a great, nationwide effort to serve as part of the Holy Cross community!
Each year, Spes Unica Associates (SUA) sponsors an Essay and Video Contest for the students in Holy Cross High Schools. This contest gives students an opportunity to reflect on their Holy Cross High School, the impact that it has on their lives, and ways they have developed “the competence to see and the courage to act.” Questions have ranged from the influence of the Brothers of Saint Joseph to Blessed Moreau’s Vision on Family being lived out. Cash prizes are awarded and winning essays and videos are presented at our January Conference. You can also read past winners’ essays on our Reflections page.
